Is an AMD Athalon 64x2 Dual Core 4200+ a good processor? Also combined with 256mb ATI Radeon X1300 Pro PCI Express graphics card will I be able to run the latest games well? I dont want "extreme gaming" but want to play games without lagging of my computer.

Thanks, I'm buying my first computer and just wondered.

yes... but the Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 will provide better performance for the same price...
 
Sorry but i need help. How about an Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6300 Processor (1.86GHz, 1066MHz, 2MB) combined with the media accelerator 3000 for good but not "extreme gaming"
 
Get the E6300 if you can, but dont get the Intel Media Accellerator at any cost. the X1300 is better than that, but for gaming you will want at least like a GeForce 7600 or an ATi X850.
 
Keffinator... they put an edit post button as an option for a good reason... :P... and i agree with burgerbob
 
get ATLEAST an x1600Pro or an x800 card or nvidia's 7600 series cards...the 7300's and the x1300's are sucker cards with G70 and the x1k cores but they really don't have enough juice in them to perform well in newer games.
 
Well I have ordered my new system now. It is as follows:
Intel® Viiv™ Core™ 2 Duo E6300 Processor (1.86GHz, 1066MHz, 2MB)
Genuine Windows® XP Media Center Edition 2005
1024MB Dual Channel DDR2 533MHz [2x512] Memory
256MB ATI® Radeon® X1300 Pro graphics card
320GB (7200rpm) Serial ATA Hard Drive with 8MB DataBurst™ cache
Dell™ A525 Speakers with Subwoofer
Integrated Sound Blaster® Audigy™ ADVANCED HD software soundcard...

...and the monitor, vista upgrade blah, blah. I know the graphics card isn't brilliant, but I've checked around and ill be able to play the games (most of them) on lower/medium settings which isn't a problem. I actually love some of the older games like Red Alert 2. I'm going to save up and upgrade al little later with the graphics, but I'm happy I've got a Core 2. It's better than the rest except the rest in its own range lol

You made a great decision getting a Core 2 Duo, but later on you probably should buy a better graphics card.
