AMD promises quad cores by 2007

CHIP FIRM AMD told analysts yesterday that it will roll out quad cores by 2007.

That is going to give Intel a severe headache. ..

But the firm also told the analysts that only minor changes are expected in 2006. The M2 socket, however, will mean quad core chips can just slot into existing designs.

According to a report on the IDG News Service, the quad cores will be linked by a revised type of Hypertransport that can support DDR.

I think they meant ddr2. since hypertransport has supported ddr for some time now

And 4 cores by mid 2007 might be optomistic, in fact m2 by q1 06 might be. And there must be a point of diminshing returns bringing out 4 physical cores for the desktop market especially so soon.
