AMD Turion 64 L2 cache question...

I need a new notebook and am leaning toward the HP ze2000z.

AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-28 (1.6GHz/512KB L2 Cache)
AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-30 (1.6GHz/1MB L2 Cache)

15.0" TFT XGA BrightView (1024x768)
ATI RADEON(R) XPRESS 200
256MB DDR SDRAM (1x256MB)
60 GB 4200 RPM Hard Drive
8X DVD Drive
54g(TM) 802.11b/g WLAN w/ 125HSM/SpeedBooster(TM)
12 Cell Lithium Ion Battery

I'll add an additional stick of 512MB memory myself... only 4200RPM hard drives are available and will do for now. As for the processor, I wanted to know if an extra 512KB of L2 cache is worth US$35. As you can see, this is a budget system and I'd like to save the cash towards the extra memory.

For an extra $35 i'd go with the larger cache size. When i went from T-Bred L2 256k to a Barton 512k L2 cache i noticed a difference. From 512k to 1MB should be an even bigger improvement.

I figured as much, but I'm wondering what the power consumption will be like. I'm guessing twice the cache has to shorten the battery life.

Well, i know the Acer based Turions get ~2.5hrs of battery life, not exceptionally long. That's the one using the AMD Turion(TM) 64 ML-30 (1.6GHz/1MB L2 Cache) too. But there battery might jsut suck. The HP might do better with a bigger 12-cell battery.

1. Higher Cache will add to the performance, n u will not b able to buy extra cache afterwards.

2. u may replace HDD with a 7200rpm one, n sell this one.

3. Go fr any other system, the config is not up to the mark.
