AMD Turion & Intel Core Duo equivilencies to Intel Celeron

Hello,

I currently have a laptop with a Intel Celeron 2.53 Ghz.

Can anyone give me a rough idea of what Ghz I would need in a Turion or Core Duo to get the same performance?

In other words, would the AMD AMD Turion(TM) 64 X2 Dual-Core TL-52(1.6GHz/1MB) give me better performance than my current processor?

How about the Intel(R) Core(TM) Duo processor T2050 (1.60 GHz)?

What Ghz rating would be roughly equal to a Celeron 2.53?

I know I want to get at least as good of a processor as I have now (if not better) and am wondering if anyone can help me know what a better proccessor would look like.

THanks!!!

Both of those processors your mentioned are ALOT better compared to the celeron. You're comparing a budget processor to flagship mobile processors.

Either of those will outperform the Celeron, even the low-end models.

Much, much better performance. Not to mention it's a dual-core.

Similar to the Turion, however I would go with the Core Duo.

You can't compare a Celeron 2.53 to anything else, simply because...well, you cant. Any Pentium M, Core Duo, Turion, etc, will outperform the Celeron. And most likely a Celeron M 1.6Ghz would outperform it to.

Hmmm. I was told that the AMD would be better, since I use my computer all day long and it runs 24/7...is that not correct?

Let me rephrase that:
I use my computer all day long and leave it on 24/7. Hence, I was told that the AMD would be a better choice because the AMD runs cooler than the Intel and would be better suited to that usage pattern.

No, the Intel runs cooler.

Ah, OK.

Oh well, it doesn't really matter. The AMD was the only computer that had what I needed in my price range that was in stock at the stores in my area. The three stores I was at had about 20% of their notebooks in stock, due to Christmas. THe intel computers that met my requirements were not in stock. I'm sure the AMD will do what I need it to, though. :)
