AMD Venice vs. Clawhammer vs. San Diego - which is recommended?

Hey guys, I am about to do some serious upgrading but I am unsure which core to get. I am definately going with a socket 939 Asus board but not sure which AMD core to get. Any recommendations? My primary use for my computer is gaming, music, movies, pr0n, etc. Thanks in advance for the input.

Also, does anyone have any input about VIA chipsets? I've always used nForce chipsets and have been happy. The board i am looking at has a VIA chipset so any info there would be appreciated.

VIA isn't half bad now, at least I don't think so. There overclocking abilities have really improved. I however am still an nForce fan, so I obviously don't know alot about VIA's, or hwere there REAAL strengths are.

"Venice performed better than San Diego across the board, and it isn't too difficult to conclude that the extra speed offered no advantage in terms of file archiving and extraction; hard drive RPM and cache are the influencing factors that determine the speed of these actions"

[Cliffs] Venice pretty much proved better if you are looking for a cheaper processor, that overclocks great, and can compete with the big boys.

"The AMD San Diego is one hell of a screamer for single-core setups, but with its high price tag, the small performance increase isn't truly justified unless you'll be coding and compiling all day or a similar CPU intensive process."

VIA isn't half bad now
they're still pretty 5hit
Venice performed better than San Diego across the board
thats because those tests are crap

unless you'll be coding and compiling all day or a similar CPU intensive process.
that contradicts the results of there own tests.

But overall there conclutions are correct. The san diego price increase does not justfy the performance increase, but then you can say that for a lot of cpus in the same family.

Get the Venice unless you want to pay more for L2 cache because that's the only difference between the Venice and San Diego Cores. The clawhammer's memory controller can't match that of the Venice's.
