AMD VS Intel

Okay guys...a couple of my buds keep thrashing AMD ,saying that they make shitty motherboards and intel is way better than amd in all aspects.....any comments?

This is probably the 10th thread on this topic.

And currently Intel is better in that they are offering higher end CPU's than AMD.

You can still get a pretty good bang for your buck though.

I'm running a socket 939 Athlon 64 X2 from a few years ago and I'm still happy with it.

Yeah, if I had a dollar for every thread related to this.

I would say that Intel is better at the moment, but who knows what AMD is going to come up with.

AMD don't even make motherboards, and their Chipsets are better than Intel's... Intel is the current performance/OC king but AMD still have great budget/midrange CPUs and the new Phenom II makes for a competitor in the mid-high market.

Intel makes better chipsets than AMD/Ati. I do not see the reason right now to go with AMD. All the older intel quads are priced really well against the AMDs.

The reason is price. Simple as that. The Intel processors outperform the comparable AMD's by a little but they add about $100 to the cost of a system for a typical consumer computer.

The AMD processors are excellent and they perform very well, if not at the state of the art. I have AMD's in two of my systems. I don't notice any performance difference between them and comparable Intels. I could measure the difference but I don't really notice it. Whether you would notice it or not would depend on the application.

I really like new Phenom II 920 and 940, I had 920 one and overclocked to 3.2Ghz with 780G and stock cooler with no voltage bump, it runs under 50C loaded and ties with my Q9550 stock which cost a little more.
I would not buy older Phenoms or any Dual cores from AMD unless for extremely cheap system like under $600.
And AMD does not have and answer for i7

Dunno how you can say that... AMD has a lot better-performing platform(s), especially in the budget sector, ATi IGPs can actually game, try Intel IGP... yaww right... in general, AMD seems to have much better budget offerings. I've seen energy-efficient 65W Phenom Quads going for AUD$220, considering that just about any other low-end quads (Q6600, Phenom X4 9550) cost at least $300.

Oh and then they have those triple-cores... I got one because
-Athlon dual-cores are too inefficient, I wanted something that performs better clock-for-clock (Phenom I almost ties with Conroe/Kentsfield)
-Intel dual-core are too expensive, except for the low-end... and the low-end Intel CPUs don't have VT
-All quad-cores (including AMD) were just too expensive for my budget, I wanted a sub-$200 CPU.

A Phenom X3 fit perfectly withing my budget, it's a great low-cost multitasking CPU, and it comes with Virtualization... plus, Phenom 8x50 CPUs perform about as good as Intel's E8xxx/E7xxx series at a lower price (here in Australia anyways).

It really all depends what you are doing with your system. I am using an Athlon 4600+ Dual-Core Windsor (2.4 gigahertz) processor, 2 gigabytes of RAM with Windows Vista and an MSI Radeon HD 3650 video card and everything is running great.

I don't play the latest state of the art games and I don't do video editing so I don't care about having a Phenom II or a Core 2 Quad processor.

My next upgrade will probably be a Solid State Drive (SSD) as I would like to triple my hard drive transfer rate.

Maybe around 2012 I will get a Phenom AM2+ 95 Watt Quad-Core if I feel I need the processing power and if they are still being sold.

amd cpus are better for the money, if you bought a 100 dollor amd cpu it would be the best you could get for the money a 100 dollor intel cpu would crap

to be honest i like amd better then intel intel does make better cpu's right now nvida just came out with the 295 so they also make the best graphics card, but about 2 weeks ago ati made the best graphics card soo there pretty close to each other
