AMD vs Intel

If both of theses processors were at their max Ram, which would give out better performance. I'm doing music production.
1. AMD Athlon II X4 645 @3.1GHZ 2MB L2 cache-Ram 16 GB- 2. Intel i5-2300 @2.8Ghz 6MB cache-Ram 8 GB- There is no question the Intel is a better procssesor, however the Athlon board can hold up to 16GB. Will this extra Ram on the Athlon make up for its lack of procesessing power and allow it to outperform the Intel?- Thanks for any feedback-

If you want the performance of Intel, why not just get a board that supports 16GB?

The AMD system comes with 6GB maxing at 16. The Intel comes with 4GB maxing at 8. At their base specs, they are the same price. Maxing the AMD up to 16GB will cost about $80 more than maxing the Intel at 8GB. Finding an Intel with 16GB is out of my price range.

6GB memory is an odd number for AMD. More than likely the prebuilts come with 8 and 4 gb of 1333. Even if it's 1600 your getting ripped off at $80 for 8GB.
You should build the pc yourself.
That way you can get what you want with all the parts, not just mb/ram/cpu. Maybe cost less, but mainly you decide where/how the money's spent.

When today computers get a little old, the only matter will be the memory.

The most needed in a app to run is no the CPU but the memory...

So if you need memory max right now, you have only a choice of this two models...
