Amd X2 3800

Does anyone have any results on overclocking this chip? Also any recommendations would be appreciated. I have the AMD x2 3800, a gigabyte ga-k8u-939 board, EchoStar 680w psu, and 2 corsair 512 ram!


The mobo lets me, Work with Frequency/voltage Control's.

First I can Change the k8 CPU Clock Ratio.. Options are Default,x5 1000mhz,x6 1200,x71400,x81600,x9 1800, and x10 2000mhz. Then I can Auto Detect PCI clk enable or disable. Then CPU Clock from 200-500 . Then CPU OVER VOLTAGE control..Options are Auto, 5%, 7.5%, and 10.. Then Dimm Overvoltage..Options Auto, 0.1v then 0.2v. Then I have Vcc18 Overvoltage Control.. Options are auto, 5%, 7.5%, and 10%. Then VCC12 Overvoltage control..Options auoto, 5% , 7.5% and 10. I also have agp Overvoltage control auto, 5% , 7.5%, and 10%.

Any suggestions would be more appreciated and Thanks
 
The way yours is setup isnt that great for overclocking, with all this "auto" and percentage stuff. I would raise the CPU bus to overclock, not the clock ratio. Dont touch the AGP voltage either, and since you seem new to overclocking, i wouldnt mess with any voltages.
 
I no alot about overclocking gpu's but not cpu's as you stated. However, my research grows more and more everyday on ocin cpus.
 
lets see the specs on the power supply...
and nobody really suggests gigabyte boards for overclocking.
i heard they had some problems and gigabyte refused to take the boards back because the problems had to do with overclocking, or inability to overclock.
either way, i got mine to 2.6ghz (+24hrs dual prime stable), 2.4ghz without an overvolt at all (and +24hrs dual prime stable).
i can get it to 2.66ghz but its not fully stable.. i think i need better cooling.
i plan on getting either a freezer 64 or a big typhoon.
if i were you, i'd get one of those... i hear the big typhoon with a better fan is a real BEAST lol
and the freezer 64 is excellent (overclocker-type) cooling, easy to install, and cheaper.
if you want to go past 2.4ghz you'll definitely need something better than stock cooling in order to push it far enough for it to be worth it.
of course, my uncle has a P4 @ 2.53ghz and i needed to pass that just to show him how much better my system is lol..
it's all about the speed + bragging rights ;)
lets see your idle + load temps, and what heatsink are you using?
what voltage is it running at? im guessing... 100mV (thats what i needed to hit 2.53Ghz stable), so 1.45v or what?
what PSU, link us to it.
also... you may want to make a post on www.overclock.net
they have some REALLY hardcore o/cers that might have suggestions for you... i mean like FX-55 @ 3.7ghz type of hardcore. lol
i think there was a guy on that site that hit 4.1ghz with an FX-57 @ 1.7V... DAYUM! lol

I have that dam freezer cpu cooler it aint worth the shit, I installed it and the change wasnt much, mind that it is quiet but doesnt drop the cpu temp hardly at all. My idle is around 33 and full trot is around 47. I am going to put my stock cooler back on lol and sell the freezer 64! The power supply
