I was looking into getting a new CPU later on this year, now as far as i know L2 cache is short term memory for the CPU and the more it has the better it can multi-task. The two chips i was looking at is the Athlon X2 6400+ with 2x1Mb L2 cache and the Intel E8400 3.0GHz with 2x3Mb L2 cache. Am i right in saying that the Intel would handle multi-tasking and games better them the AMD.
Thanks

actually amd and intel are hand in hand in my opinion, amd is just focusing on different things right now. intel clocked its processors slightly higher and their chips have the ability to clock higher because they are 45nm, whereas amd is still using 65nm tech.

i was going to go with the e8400 but decided on the q6600 quad instead

Both are incredible chips... A E8400 @ 4 GHz will outperform a Q6600 in most games. The Q6600 @ 3.6 GHz will edge the E8400 in video encoding. It just depends on how you use your system.

Ha, i doubt thats always been true

Back in the heydays of the Athlon XP, AMD was the undisputed king of the chip makers. Times have changed though, and Intel has regained the performance lead by a pretty sizeable margin.

For me, it's all about performance, so my machines run on Intel processors. If AMD ever regains the lead in processors, I'd go back in a heartbeat. Unfortunately it doesn't look like that'll happen anytime in the near future.

E8400 ;)

i would also go back to AMD though if they ever got back on their feet!
