AMD's different speeds

how come AMD processors say they are slow and cost so much money?
here is an example:

why does it say only 2.6 ghz and it costs so much $ is it really a different speed or something?

yes, it operates at 2.6GHz but clock speed isn't a clear definition of speed. It's not even close to the same as 2.6GHz from Intel, try googling an Athlon FX review.

You're thinking of speeds in terms of Intel. AMD and Intel are different, and their speeds mean different things. For one, Intel has a way deeper pipeline then most Intel's.

Well they have Hypertransport and Hypethtreading in the same dropdown box... stupid newegg ... so what does it mean for Athlon64s? Nonapplicable for the FSB and 'yes' for the Hyperthreading?


Regarding the clockspeeds, both Intel and AMD have discontinued using clock speed as a measure of performance. They both use performance numbers (aka model numbers).
