what is this talk about AM3, why would AMD come out with this 8 months after AM2 is released, they are screweing all of us that have put money into AM2 builds thinking it will be here and solid for the next few years.

AFAIK AM3 isnt that much of a big thing either, doesnt it jsut iron out lots of bugs and glitches that are found in AM2, and remeber that AM3 isnt a chip type, its a socket, same goes for AM2, too many times people quote AM2 and 3 as CPU types.

Anyone back this up?

I also heard that current AM2 motherboards will be compatible with future AM3 CPU's. So if that's true, you won't need to upgrade you're motherboard and RAM as well.

Thats what ive heard also. But say Am3 does iron alot of glitches and bugs out of AM2. Would you be stuck with the bugs in AM2 or could you get a patch or something of that sort to iron them out in AM2 as well?

i think i decided just to wait for K8l because im gettin tired of all this mess. K8l will blow conroe out da water and intel knows it.

ok that sounds good but why cant AMD release new bioses and stuff, in order to get rid of my bugs im gonna have to buy a new motherboard and processor? That seems pretty costly to me.
especially for people who have gone with AM2 already. seems like they are costing me more money every other week. just to have a nice computer

excuse me for interrupting your little comment there, but when exactly is K8L being released, whatrs the Q1-2 of 2007, yeh, so when is conroe being released, say, 2 weeks away, max.... so your trying to compare "todays chip" with next years chip, thats about the smartest thing ive heard all day... In addition to that, you have no clue what intel will release a few months AFTER K8L is released....

they're hardware bugs, not software bugs, you cant just patch them up, you have to wait until the company, in this case AMd, releases an updated model, ni this case AM3...

So in that case, what im understanding from this is that AM2 would be a waste of money and your time if Am3 will just fix all hardware issues regaring Am2.
so Am2 would be and is a waste of money?
thats what im understanding

evem though it seems like a lot of money to fix hardware bugs when there shouldnt be any bugs right now, understanding there will be a few compatibility issues as with all hardware there shouldnt be this big of a problem, AMD should have cointinued to work on AM2 to make it reliable before release instead of wasting my money. this is making me want to go intel / conroe not because of the performance gain but because of the ease of use since intel already supports DDR2 for a few years now and thats the only real gain in AM2 plus since intel hasnt had a drastic upgrade all of their equipment is free of bugs/compatibility issues for the most part.

It's probably just like the thing AMD did before, going from Socket A, to 754, to 939, as socket 754 was just temporary.
