An Interesting Idea Regarding Connecting a TV with a Computer

I would like to connect an HDTV to my computer through HDMI, while the computer runs 2 other monitors on DVI.

Would that mean I need two video cards? I have an MSI Diamond P6N motherboard with 4 PCI express slots, but only two can be used for video.

I'd like to have the cable tv go through my computer so I can record shows on the hard drive, but also be able to view the cable tv on the television live (and watch recorded shows as well).

Is this scenerio possible?

You will need a capture card of some sort. HD capture cards are still rather rare and typically buggy so I'm not sure how much luck you'd have finding a good one. I'm also still stuck with SD myself, so I'm not even quite sure what inputs most use right now. I'd seen a few that seemed to use HDMI and DVI, but it also mentioned something about output...

As for watching on the TV, it's possible, you would need another video card. Unless you split the signal somehow from your other output and had the same thing on two screens.

Thanks for the reply. The extra information on capturing HD was very helpful because I haven't even looked into that. I've only looked SD at this point because that's the only subscription I have right now.

I'm more concerned about the ablility to play HDTV content from my computer on the TV, but from what you posted I gather that its very possible. Hopefully it works great because this is a $1.5k project and I'd hate to take a 15% restocking fee hit if things don't work right
