An irritating black border scaling problem.

I have an 24" 1080P Acer monitor with the notorious small black screen border scaling problem.

It only appear when I use a DVI D or a HDMI cable. The VGA cable allow me to adjust the scaling in Catalyst Control Centre though. But who wants to use that cable nowadays? It have been like this since I bought the monitor. And with 2 different Radeon cards. And at least 5 different drivers.

And the scaling controls for the monitor are alwas greyed out. :( I have talked to the Acer support about this. But they did'nt have any ansver to that.

I have tried to set the "hdtvadjust scaling" to 0 in the registry too as someone suggested. But no cigar.

It's not a total disaster to have this very thin black border. But it irritates me some.

Are there anyone here that have the soloution for this?

Check to make sure you are running the native resolution for that monitor. In the monitor itself make sure are no weird settings as far as resolution goes. You may want to choose to reset to factory defaults on the monitor. If everything looks good, its definately a scaling issue. You should be at this screen in the AMD catalyst control center.

You should be able to drag the slider bar.

Also, check your settings here.

Hi!

Thank you very much for the help! Yes, it's running at the native settings and update frequency. I will try to reset the monitor to the factory settings.
The upper screen shot, ATI Control Centre with the scaling slider I have'nt seen since the 12.XX version of the driver. I have really missed that option.

I'm running the latest AMD driver and still have the scaling slider. You may want to reinstall the driver and prerequisite software(net framework).

Ok. Thanks again. Is this option hidden in some way in the CCC? But I can just as well reinstall the driver package and see if it turns up?

You will have to enable advanced options. Open CCC and click on preferences up top right, click on advanced view.

edit - just checked and scaling options also appear in standard view as well. So not sure whats going on with yours.

Hmm, the factory reset did'nt work. And no cigar when reinstalling the driver either. :( The scaling slider is still gone despite what I do.

When you open ccc and click on "my digital flat panel" on the left and then click on scaling options what do you see? Can you show me a screenshot?

edit- Try doing this.

Go into add/remove programs and totally uninstall the ati/amd software for the video card. Then download the latest version and try reinstalling to see if it works.

When I do that, I will see the option as in your screenshot that is under the one with the slider.

I have done what you suggested, uninstalling the latest driver and reinstalled it again. With a proper cleaning using DDU uninstaller in safe mode in between.

A small suspicion here. Can the installation of the generic, Windows driver that installs as soon as you have rebooted from the ATI driver uninstallation have anything to do with this?

It shouldn't. Are you uninstalling through device manager or are you actually doing it through add/remove programs?

Update.

I finally figured out how to get the scaling slider. I had the driver installed in Swedish. After trying to reinstall it in English, I got the scaling slider! :)
