An upgrade for my game server computer.

So I've recently bought an old Dell Poweredge 1600sc for a game server pc. I know the hardware in it limits it a lot but I got it for free so where can you go wrong. I wanted to install a new motherboard with a new cpu, upgraded ram, psu and a cheap gpu and continue to use the same case because it keeps the components cooled well. http://pcpartpicker.com/p/24QXQ7 That link is to the parts I chose and I was wondering if that would work well for a server pc that would be running a windows based OS and running 1-2 game servers such as Minecraft 24/7, and from time to time a Garry's mod server. Is this going to be okay?

I'd probably just chuck the whole thing in favor of a new build. It sounds like you were budgeting for all of the parts anyway.

Yeah just build something from scratch. One of my biggest pet peeves is when people want to use existing OEM cases.

Alrighty, I suppose that will be my plan then. I'm gonna have to save up more money of course but I'm sure it'll be better in the long run. Thank you for your help :)

Let me know when you get that Minecraft server going. I used to run one myself. :)

I'll try too :) Also whats your opinion on my idea? I still kind of really want to use that case for the server because that case is a good one, but I don't want to seem like an ass and ask for help be completely toss off their assistance.... Please help :|

Do whatever you want man. I think you're really overrating the case itself though since it's a pretty generic OEM offering.

Also, you might have a hard time putting in your own PSU since it already has space allocated for those dual swappable ones.

Okay... I think I will try the case and if it doesn't work out I'll invest in a new one. But as far as components go, how do the processor, ram, motherboard etc. will work out for a game server?

Since it was free I'd give it a shot and see if it can facilitate what you're looking for. It'd probably be able to handle most local LAN tasks unless you needed some huge server for something.
