I recently got a new Phone, Samsung Galaxy 5 (GT I5500).

I’m blown away at the amount of stuff you can do on the Android OS and the Android market is fantastic, I did not expect to see many free apps and games to download but the lists are just endless.

So what Apps/Games do you guys like the most?

The only thing you need to remember is the more apps you download and have syncing uses up all your battery. Make sure you have it set to manual sync/update if possible.

Is it running Android 2.3 Ginger Bread? My Epic 4G is getting the update to 2.3 at the end of this month rumored the 24th.

All the Angry Birds, Cyberlords and i have a gameboy and SNES emulator playing the most popular classic games.

Lately I think Skype is the shit, I think video calls on cell phones is pretty rad :P Not that it's anything new, shit my old dumb phone had a video chat option, but the quality now....it's just as good as the computer, kind of shocked me.

Emulators and roms are perfect for the old school gamer, then again you kinda need the right phone to enjoy them (xperia play), or a wii remote to bluetooth to.

Root explorer for root phones, explorer for non rooted, great file manager.

systempanel lite is a great task manager, works well for keeping track of specific app cpu usage, ram usage etc.

torch is a great app if you have an led on your phone, so handy when you randomly need a light, especially with the widget option.

Widgetlocker allows you to place widgets on your lock screen, as well as change the unlock slider to a custom one.

One punch notes is a great note program with good widget support, I never forget anything now.

Launcherpro is an amazing alternate home launcher if your looking for something customizable to the extreme.

Kami retro is a good game I recently got, was free when I got it. Great one for touch screen only phones.

Skyforce reloaded is a good top down airplane shooter. Reminds me of the old arcade games.

And there's many more depending on your interests. I didn't mention most games I have, as I can't imagine playing them without a gamepad.

Nah im running 2.2,Thats what Samsung Kies automaticly updated it to for me,Maybe they have not relesed it for this specific phone yet?
Is there much diffrence between 2.2 and 2.3?

I was playing Angry Birds last night :P,Fun little game.

I will let you know the difference at the end of this month, Samsung and Sprint are offering 2.3 for my Epic at the end of this month.

What I dont get is what phone do I have, from sprint the call it the samsung Epic but when I power it on it says Galaxy S.

Yep, Android is awesome! When your phone is working; jumped in the pool with my Thunderbolt in my pocket. QQ

I would recommend a task killer...Android will leave certain apps running even though you have closed out of them. When you have a task killer you can kill the task completely and then the next time you use that feature/service it will just restart that task.

Its a HUGE battery saver I have one on my tablet and almost double my battery life

DO NOT USE the ADVANCE TASK KILLER WITH THE ANDROID SYMBOL, it does not kill all the task and they have been known to have malware in them from time to time. The best one I seen is is battery doctor, but that is from what I have seen. I have a Samsung Epic and I don't know if all Samsung products have them but with the Epic if you hold down the home button a task manager comes up provided from samsung that kills all my apps for me.

Added a bunch of NFC API's
slightly upgraded the bluetooth
Added a couple graphics API's
Added a couple media framework API's
Added a couple options to speech recognition
API level got upped to 10 from 9

Thanks for that, Will just have to wait and see when it pops up on Samsung Kies as an update.

Does anyone know how you "Minimize" a running app? For example when playing a you tube clip if I try and do something else it automatically close the open application…I really should take a look at the manual. :D

I’m surprised how well everything runs on my phone though considering it’s the slower of the latest android phones with only a 600 MHz processor, Ive not experienced any slowdowns.

No prob, except I screwed that up pretty bad. Those are changes from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3, which I for some reason thought you said. The differences from 2.2 to 2.3 are much more drastic, and include:
slightly more refined UI
more power efficient and some speed optimizations
Redone text selection, much easier to choose your highlighted area and move your cursor around
copy and paste improved
improved power management
Support for internet phone calls integrated throughout the os
revamped download management
support for front facing cameras in the camera app
And others, too lazy to type them, here's the full list:

To minimize you press the home button. To get back to your app you can either tap on the app icon again or press and hold home for the recent app list. You can't play a youtube video in the background, unfortunately.

My old Legend was very snappy too, which sported the same processor. It's cool that even the newest versions of Android run great on this dated processor. I actually found 2.3 to be a bit faster than 2.2

Yeah i just got my first andriod phone about a month ago before i was like whats this fuss about app, now i understand.

If you have rooted your phone there are a few overclocking progrms out there. If your are lloking for good media players, rock player is good as it can handle divx and xvid, for music try poweramp, winamp, songbird or cubed apps.

There is also a guy a who created a load of emulators for free, tigers emulators, and they work well.

App brain is good to show what apps are highly rated, more so than the standard market app.

Speedtest.net app is good for being nerdy and test the speed of 3g and such.

Us army survial app is handy and there is a tricorder app which is fun. Ulysse apps are good for like speedometers and tracking how fast your going.

Leos rc simualtor is a good game for simulating remote control planes, its in 3d btw.

Go launcher and launcher ex i think it is are good apps if you want to optimise launching apps and going into the app drawer.

For benchmarking try quadrant or antutu.

BTW i have never had a problem with advanced task killer i have used it on several versions of android.
I could go on all night.
