Heres my problem. My dad and me both hook our laptops onto our home wireless network using a WPA string, so does my ps3 and various other pieces of equipment. So preferably keeping the string the same would be great. My dad recently got me to replace his 40Gb laptop HDD with a new 160Gb, so I installed windows onto it, and headed off to acer to find the drivers for the various components. VGA, Audio and chipset went a-ok. Then when it came to the wireless, things went bad. I finally found the wireless drivers and installed them. Weird thing is, now the interface for choosing your wireless network from the range of available ones (we pick up 2 of our neighbors' networks too) has completely changed, and from how it looks, I can only use a WEP code to log onto a network on his laptop now! Which is really annoying! Can anyone help me? I really don't want to change every other thing that uses the network onto a WEP code. The laptop used to handle WPA fine... Acer sucks (or maybe I'm just dense). It's an Acer Aspire 3620. If it were up to me I wouldn't go anywhere near those things, but he only uses it for email, music and photos so he doesn't need anything fancy. The Sticker at the bottom, along with the listed drivers on the website tell me the network adapter is an Atheros: AR5BB5
I'll put up some screens from the network selection screen soon.
I would appreciate any help!
PS: I tried temporarily changing the router onto a WEP and my dads laptop did manage to connect, so the drivers DO work...but its still a matter of getting it to accept a WPA code.
