Annoying problem, please help.. computer won't load properly!

Recently I'd been having some troubles with my computer.. mostly small things like PC related internet connection issues (couldn't resolve the issues, other computers run fine on the same hub with the same settings!).. my profile dissappeared one day, and I found it in the ../TEMP folder, etc etc..

Anyways, the problem is that once I restored the computer, after removing my WLAN card (PCI) and unplugging the cable to the NIC and all USB cables, I get to the setup section of Windows XP Home SP1 and once at the 'What's Your Computer's Name?' screen, I type in a name and click next (also tried skip, both do the same thing) and it sits there, blanking out the buttons like it's going to move to the next screen but it just sits there!.. I can click the help icon, the mouse icon moves around as if the computer has plenty of resources. It just sits there.

I tried re-installing windows again (as I did the first time, using the eMachines recovery CD) and the same things happening.

Can someone please help me with this? I'm lost, I've tried everything I know of and haven't solved a thing.

My PC specs are;

eMachines D2823
Intel Celeron D 2.53GHz
768MB Ram
On-board graphics
ADMTEK NIC
Windows XP Home SP1

Any other specs needed, please ask and I can provide them.

Thank you

EDIT: Just removed the NIC, same results as before =(

Remove Absolutly Everything before remformatting.

Card Readers, Have all your PCI Slots Free, Remove all USB things using Slots, And try again.

All you will need to run is CPU, HDD, RAM, Graphics Card, Cd Drive. Leave everything else Unplugged.

Try Again.

I still have the OEM floppy drive installed, I unplugged that and am currently reformatting.. hopefully it works, but, let's say it doesn't.. what might you suggest in that situation?

EDIT: I also tried swapping out my old RAM, and put known working and clean ram in it's place.. which yielded the same results.

Just got done attemping to redo the setup, and nothing has changed =(

Could any of this be linked to a bad HDD.. any possibility at all?

The restore disk I have is nearly mint, my RAM appears to not be the problem as nothing changed with different RAM installed.. what else could it be?

I found the one and only solution to this issue according to emachines.

I used this about a year and a half back, and could not for the life of me find it again.. until I spent the last 4 1/2 hours on google!

But you've reformatted and have no OS on the HDD

I should have noted this is to be used during the setup process of Windows XP Home/Pro.. it works with full copies as well as restore discs.. I used the restore disc for my machine.
