I have a 5 year old HP Pavilion zv5000 laptop that I just recently wiped everything off of and re-installed Windows and everything back on. I've had this problem since before I wiped everything, it was a minor nuisance then but now it's really infuriating. This computer has 3 USB ports, and I need to use all 3 of them at once. I have a wireless keyboard and mouse, external hard drive, and the 3rd port for my camera or ipod. About 3/4ths of the time I plug something into the 3rd port, I get a message that reads: "Power Surge on Hub Port: A USB device has exceeded the limits of its hub port. For assistance in this problem, click this message." Sometimes all of my USB ports stop working, sometimes one of them stays working. So, when I click the message, I get a box that says I need to reset my hub ports or they'll continue not working. So I do that, and nothing really happens. If all of the hub ports stopped working, then one will start working again. If that one was already working, then nothing happens. And it doesn't matter what device I plug into that port, it does the same thing. For anyone who knows the layout of the computer, there's 2 USB ports on the left side that never cause issues and one on the right side that causes this problem a lot. I'd love to actually be able to use all 3 of my USB devices at once...any suggestions for how to solve this problem? I really know nothing about computers, so this is angering me.
Thanks,
Clark
