Annoying vibrating page virus.

I have a really anoyying bug on my computer, and I think it's a virus.

In internet explorer, every so often when I try to scroll down the page, it starts jumping, and vibrating up and down, making it really difficult to read or click anything, or even scroll to the right part of the page.

At first it only happens when I use the scroll bar on the right hand side of the page, and then after a while of trying to scroll it just starts happening whenever I move or click my mouse about within the page (or use the mouse wheel).

If I move the cursor to the toolbars at the top of the page, or away from the window alltogether, then it stops, but then starts again when I move it back. Sometimes it just goes away after a while, or after restarting IE or my PC, but I want it rid of alltogether.

I searched for "vibrating scrolling virus" and things like that but couldn't find anything.

Can anyone help?

Video drivers! Refresh rates! Once you start seeing anything displayed bouncing around try changin the refresh rate in the advanced settings from 60hz upto 75hz or reverse down from 75hz to 60hz to see if that corrects the problem.

On occasion a display driver may load sideways were an update or reinstall of the video drivers are needed. I've run into that here at times were it proved annoying but no sign of any virus.

what would the advantages be of a higher refresh rate?

That is of course if the computer could support it.

Would it make the computer seem cleaner, or something else?

Ok, I've bumped up the refresh rate to 75Hz, and will wait and see if it happens again....As i say, it's an intermittent problem.

I should make it clear that this problem isn't the screen lagging when I go up or down the page...like when you get multiple overlapping frames whenever you move.

It actually vibrates up and down, jittering, at first only when I try to scroll, but then seems to get worse as I go on, eventually doing this whenever I move the cursor or click within the page, and then whenever the cursor is in the page...even if it's stationary.

So it seems to make sense that a higher refresh rate would solve the lagging problem but this is actually different....though I'm probably not doing a very good job at explaining the difference.

Thanks

I've had the same problem in IE here where the page of the thread you are viewing will suddenly start jumping when trying to scroll down. A recent clean install of the drivers and application for the video card was stuck at 60hz and saw a typical error common when seeing a partial not full install occur. That was when XP had to see a clean install.

Once the drivers and CCC for the ATI card here were removed for the second installation the problem of being stuck at 60hz was corrected as well as no longer seeing the bounce problem in IE. It still remains a display problem however where trying that as well as a clean install of the video software/drivers if necessary will likely work for you there.

That's good to hear. That was happening to me here while simply trying to scroll down a thread. Recently due to testing a new prebeta release tool I ended up having to reinstall both XP and Vista and no longer see of it.

As you know that also included a fresh install of video software/drivers and adjusting the refresh rate to 75hz. If the problem should return you won't need to go that far however. The OSs were reinstalled due to problem in one of the builds needing something else entirely. Just keep in mind this is a display related problem you can work with.
