Okay, I want to build a computer with these specifications. I want to use this processor, the 5400+

I already have a 500watt power supply and a video card and sound card for it so I wont need those. Other then that I need everything. Motherboard I need suggestions with. RAM I'll stick with 1GB now and upgrade down the road. I have 2GB of DDR and I wouldn't mind using that if I could find an AM2 motherboard that supports DDR. If not I'll need suggestions on RAM. Operating system I want to stick with XP, I need to know what to buy for a new install though. DVD ROM's including the data strap and stuff I need basically everything. If someone could put something together for around $1,000 (this is with no power supply, video card, or sound card in budget) that would be great. Budget needs to include that processor @ $260 though. I want to use this case...

I know it's clear and that's strange but that's why I want to use it. I'm pretty set on that. Other then that I am pretty open to any suggestions. Remember I have the PSU, video card, and sound card. After buying the processor and case I have about $700 for motherboard, RAM (unless I can use my DDR?), and everything else. What can you guys throw together? Thanks.

You cant use DDR ram on AM2 so thats out of the question. and Core 2 Duo is much better than any AMD thats out right now so i highly suggest going intel's direction. Here is a list a parts for a Core 2 Duo:

if you still really want AMD for some reason then ok

I am just stuck to the AMD because of the price and the fact that the computer I have now has an AMD and I am very happy with it. I know the Core 2 Duo's are the better technology and I have one in my work PC but I just have a mental hang up over the AMD. If it costs me performance that's my fault, I have been warned I know. I like some of your suggestions though including the hard drive. Are all AM2 boards going to be 240 pin DDR2-800?

Also these are two dumb questions but this is my first time building anything in a long time. First what operating system do I need to buy if I just want basic XP and secondly if I have a DVD burner and 2 DVD ROM's where do I get that data strap that connects them to the motherboard? Are there any additional odds and ends I am going to need to complete this thing like cables, wires, fans, ect? I don't want to miss anything. Thanks for everyone's help.
