alright i'm building a new comp. this is my plan for it

what i have:

-xfinity 600 watt PSU
-gigabyte p35-ds3r motherboard
-1 gig patriot 800mhz DDRAM
-bigwater cooling kit

what i'm getting:

-another gig of patriot ram
-intel core 2 quad
-surround sound card
-windows vista
-8800GT 512 MB 3d card

ok...now i have a number of questions :D FIRST one...

1. a hard drive...i'd like to keep the one i have now just for the fact that i can keep all the info i have on it. or...is there a way to transfer the data? cuz that'd be great. and how much of a performance upgrade would getting a new hard drive be? the one i got is an e-machines computer bought from best buy a couple years ago :P.

2. this is going to be a pretty heavy gaming PC...so how hard would it be to run 2 512 MB 3d cards? i mean...in comparison to one 640/728 MB card?

You can get external HDD enclosures for about $30-50 that'll allow you to use your drive as an external USB-driven drive.

No point in SLi really yet. Many games cannot use it to it's full potenial and there are overheads on the bus which limits performance, baring in mind that the 8800GT is faster than the 8800GTS (G80) and almost as fast as they same-core 8800GTX.

dont really want that whole external drive thing going on. so a single 8800GT card would be my best option? thanks, i'll probably go with that then :)

1A) Put it in as a slave to another computer and get the files off.
1B) Put it in a external HDD enclosure.
1C) Put it on a network server.

2A) *768MB Card...
2B) SLi is crap. Don't go for it. Let's do it this way: 8800Ultra > 8800GTS G92 > 8800GTX > 8800GT 512 > 8800GT 256 > 8800GTS 640 > 8800GTS 320

thanks a lot! that's some useful info. and i'll post pics when it's done. i'm hopin it's gonna look pretty nice. UV lights and i'm gettin a soprano case cuz i love the outside of it. looks so sleek
