Another weird internet connection problem

I currently have DSL at home and have the following setup: The main computer, a desktop, is connected by CAT5 cable to a Netgear wireless router. I also have an older laptop with a Wirless G card which I use to connect via the wireless router. Here is the situation:

When visiting 3 specific websites (two secure, i.e. https:// and one regular http://) I cannot connect from the desktop. The connection attempt will time out. When I go to these same websites using the laptop, I can connect without any problem. I have not found any other websites that act this way.

The desktop is running Windows 98 SE, and the laptop, because it is older with less memory (only 64Meg), is running Windows 98. Otherwise the machines have identical software. I use Netscape 7.1 on both and IE 6.0 on both. Both are running at the default security levels, meaning I have not made any changes in the security levels, accepting cookies, using java, etc. in either browser on either machine. Not being that knowledgable about internet security options, I am rather hesitant to make changes here. The only thing I can think of is that there is something different in Windows 98 SE security than Windows 98 and that is somehow blocking my ability to connect. There is a built in firewall in the Netgear router, but I would think that should affect either machine. I have applied all the security updates for both OS's.

Does anyone have any thoughts? Luckily I can use my Laptop to connect to these three sights. One of them is quite important -- it is my 401K information!

TIA for any help.

1. Have you tried hooking the tower up to the router using a different hard wired port?
2. Have you tried hooking the laptop directly up to the router to see if it gives you the same result?
