another 'which card is better' thread

hi, ive been trawling through these forums looking for which card would be best and for my money available.

im looking to spend about £100 (i think its $200 dollars). i'm upgrading from a standard 6600, which is really struggling with supreme commander. however ive had it a while and i quite like geforce and would rather stick with them, despite never trying an ATI

i've seen a couple of different cards, and heard mixed things about each one:

7600GT - can get it for £75

7900GS - more or less £100. both links.

1. now logically, i would imagine the 7900GS being better than the 7600GT. but is it actually worth the extra £25?
2. also, is there a difference between the 2 manufacturers of the 7900GS? or should i just buy the cheaper of the two?
3. why is the 7800GS a lot more expensive than the 7900GS?
4. or am i being stupid overall, and should infact go for an ATI?

p.s. my computer specs are
AMD athlon64 3800+
2GB RAM (unsure on make, but not a major brand)
geforce 6600 PCI-E
running two displays both at 1024x768

the 7900gs is certainly worth the price difference.

is the 8600 ultra going to be radeon/geforce and also will it be dx10 compatable?

the 8600 is geforce,

but will it be loads more powerful than the 7900gs, or will it be worth it simply because of the dx10? cheers for the quick replies :)

*edit* unfortunately that site doesnt do international deliveries :(

Sorry, bout that.. but here's the deal, the ultra's power is unknown, the spec are here, sure, but until actual benchmarks arrive it's up in the air. It will be more powerful than than the gs though, and will support dx10. So it's got my vote! :)

sounds good to me, just been googling it and it does sound promising. a few sites have said that it comes with a clock speed of 350, which is considerably lower than some other cards. what does the clock speed actually do? this is the 8600GT btw, not the ultra
