Anouther Video Card Upgrade Help

Hey guys,

I have lost touch with the latest and greatest components shortly after I built this PC (see sig). At the time it was pretty much the most bang for the buck I could get with OC potential.

Problem is I have just bought a new monitor that's 1080p and the GPU is struggling a little, I notice a few dropped frames on COD MW2 which sucks majorly on an FPS.

Bearing in mind I don't want to upgrade anything in my sig.

a) Updating the GPU will not bottleneck my system in gaming too much elsewhere would it?
b) What would I need to buy to max out all current games on the market at 1080p resolution?

In other words I don't want to spend loads for a graphics card thats going to run everything at 100fps. 35 -50fps at any game in full res would be perfect (assuming the ram + processor wont have a negative impact on this).

So suggestions please ... Money is an issue but ignore any budget and suggest things that fit my needs please :) ...

Agreed, we need a budget. But I would safely recommend a GTX 460 or 470 if you want a little more firepower.
 
the gtx 460 would draw less power in return less heat, but cost $219(cheapest 1gb). the gtx470 cost $295(cheapest), so for $75 more you get 112 more processor cores, 64bits more and an extra 256 of memory.point is you get more bang with your money with the gtx470.

In real terms what does that mean? i.e. if I were to put COD MW2 on highest settings, what kind of frame rate increases would I see?

Not amazingly higher (maybe 5-10 fps). GTX470 runs hotter and uses loads of power, though pretty good performance. If you can wait for ATi's 6000 series at the end of this year, then that would be good. Hopefully you'll be able to get HD 5870 performance from say a 6770/6830, for 5770/5830 price

If you plan on buying a GTX 460, buy a 1GB version. on top of that, I would take a look at the cyclone cooled version by MSI.

The 465 is kinda like the AMD/ATI 5830. The 465 is a decapitated GF100 core. The 460 is based on the smaller GF104 core. My guess is in time the 465 will be discontinued. The 460 is the better card.
 
Dont worry about the above anymore .... but can someone tell me which of these cards will be best for gaming?

Either way ... space is an issue my 8800 GTS only just fits in, I cant have anything bigger than that.

I would probably go with the Gigabyte or XFX. Gigabyte looks to have better cooling, the XFX will have a better warranty.
 
Ok I am now drawn between 2 GTX460 cards.

The problem is in England the cyclone costs about £20 ($30) more than its 1GB competitors (factoring in deliver). Is it really worth the extra cost?
 
Thanks guys, the problem is these cards seem to be an inch longer than the cyclone and room in my case is a little on the thin side... also the cyclone is reputedly quiet.

Just to check adding a second 8800 320mb GTS would that still be less performance than this card?
