anti-static equip

No. If a bag gets punctured or the silver coating deteriorates, then the antistatic bag is useless. Elastic wristbands tend to stretch out and thus the velcro type are preferable. The cords, and resistors built into the wristbands and mats eventually fail, but it is a rare occurrance, in my experience.

yeah, i would think that, like anything else, the more you use them, the more wear and tear they get. i dobut that you are gonna be using an anti-static wrist band everyday, unless you own a shop and/or do computer repair.:)

If you do, then you invest in one of the speidel watchband type.

ouside of using static bags , I very seldom use anti static equipment. When i did use wrist bands, the cord going from the wrist band would get in the way so i would put the wrist band on my ankle. I just touch the pc case before picking up something , then I unplug the pc all together. In my close to 30 years of electronics / PCs I can not remeber destroying anything with static build up , of course, from the 70s to the 80's most everything was TTL and static was not an issue till CMOS came into being.

I dont use em, I have built before and never worried about static, I simply ground my hands on some metal and simply be careful.

haha. how much will one of those set you back??

Didn't set me back any... provided by my workplace for free-- they decided after buying them that the metal bands were a safety hazard in a workcenter where we often worked on energized equipment.

i think if you just use it for storing things, ie RAM in a bag, then you wouldnt have to worry about it...if you were referring to wristbands and such, im not sure, i dont use them. i just have the midas touch
