Anti Virus Programs

Hey I got the impression that you do not like the known not free anti virus programs and many of you refer to free anti virus programs. And of course free programs is to be preffered. BUT to me it sounds odd that those programs which you pay for is not better than the free ones. How can that be?

I have read test of the programs written by proffesionals, which states that some of those programs are good. So it is it really your honest opinion that you would prefer AVG anti virus to McAfee anti virus. Or is it just because of the price?

Because of the fact that quality and price is connected to eachother. Of course there are certain exeptions.

But I say that you are paying for a better product, and what do you base your points of view on?

I base mine on the fact i hardly use my internet so why bother paying plus when i was not so wise on comps i trustfully went to pc world & was given the best sales pitch ever on norton. He should work for them you know every idiot in the country would believe him.

So ive learned my lesson is i guess the theme im trying to convey here in my answer to your question.
 
Yeah I use Norton, but i found that it sucks for gaming cause it uses a lot of resources...once my sub is up i will prolly use avg, but I keep hearing Norton has one of the best coverages...who knows
 
I use McAfee for over a year now. In that time I had no problems with it. If I do get virus, McAfee cleans it normaly. But its true that it eat a lot of ram. So I solve this by upgradeing from 512 to 1024:)
 
Used Norton for years, never had a virus. It was a resource hog though and sometimes froze when updating and such.

Switched to AVG for a while, I think 1-2 years. Also, not a single virus. It had a few random odd problems but they weren't re-occuring. IT used less RAM/resources than Norton on average just running in the background.

So, in the end...the free one worked just as good as the purchased one and protected me jsut the same. What's my choice? Free, of course.
 
Same as the other people's posts before, I used Norton and McAfee for the past few years and they were resource hogs. Then I tried the free Avast! home edition and was very pleased with the results. It uses minimal resources, runs silently in the background (no nags), updates frequently, caught more viruses and trojans than Norton ever did. And it's free. So I'm sticking with it.

The quality of freeware nowadays is very high. Just go to sourceforge.net and you'll see a lot of freeware that are so good you'd pay money for them. Just 'cause it's free doesn't necessarily mean it has low quality.

Well, IMO, thats not always true. AVG is a very good product with frequent updates, and there is a free version. Norton, an expensive antivirus, is a complete resource hog and in my tests works only about the same as AVG does.

Some people prefer purchasing antivirus solutions from the big companies, and others prefer sticking with the free ones. I used to use norton and I kept buying subscriptions for it, until I found AVG, which was, actually, quite lately..

That's my two cents, everyone has their own opinions.
 
Aside from things you will have read in the magazines, the best Anti-Virus I has used is Avast.

On sites I saw, it was rated higher than Norton.

Bare in mind that these reviews were written by the general public, the consumer of this product.
 
i use anti virus eztrust it is great i had norton and it didnt do shit exept play with its self lol and my cpu but this one is amazing and uses not much cpu
