Anti-Virus: - Simple Question

I have norton anti-virus 2005, ive not enabled it to auto start when i log on to windows via, msconfig. Obviously its not in the notification area, am i still be protected in the background|??
 
I din't believe you will be. I mean if it doesn't load when you log on to windows then when will it. If it hasn't start then it won't be working in the background.

The idea of auto-start is that it should save you the time (and effort) when it comes to opening up the program and turning it on. If you have not enabled it, then as far as the program goes, it is turned of.
