Antivir.....

Ok, so I just got on my families main computer, the ones they all use, and noticed a program called Antivir.
Then I tried getting on different websites and it blocks them and tells me I am unprotected, then prompts me to choose to either continue unprotected or to take care of it.
If I choose to continue, it either doesn't load or goes to a ad or something.
If I choose to take care of it, it prompts me to pay $60 for it.....
So, I am running MalwareBytes and a Ad-Aware scan, but im not sure if that will take care of the problem or not.
Ok, I got through to this website now and I am running Malware then HJT.

I use the freeware version of this anti-virus and it works great. The problem you are encountering is probably the retail version that is out of date. Go get the free version and then you should be all set. Oh, and the parent or publishing company is Avira.

So this is not a virus/w/e program that I need to get rid of?
It does not even let me uninstall it or anything.
Could this possibly be a copycat looking version?

ya its not that.
its a copycat that actually looks like it is mirrored to have the same type of setup as AVG.
the icon looks like the windows security thing i think.
a red, green, yellow, and blue shield i think it is.

Wow, yup that's a virus then, or spyware/malware at the very least. See if you can get a program like Antivir, AVG or whatever you feel comfortable with on there and try to get rid of it. You may need to install the anti-virus, restart the computer in safe mode and run the anti-virus in order to get rid of it.

Ya...
I am running Malwarebytes on there right now like I said, and then I will run a Hijackthis and post the logs if that will help.
Idk that it will let me install any other anti-viruses for now.
I know this has to do with my other post, and I am not trying to cause a problem,
but I am confused about my other post that was locked.
If you want plz message me or let me know where I can find out the reason.
Thanks

I sent you a private message detailing the reason, and when you get to 100 posts, you can read the message. (it's a security thing to prevent spammers from messaging members all over the place...) Sorry, I didn't realize that you were below 100 posts... :(

ya im almost there = (
well i will just ask real quick on here then, and if i need to stop talking about it, plz let me know, for as i said, im not trying to cause problems only better understand the problem.
i am failing to see the illegality(?) in transferring my own copy of a movie i purchased, onto my computer/zune/ w/e....
is there some copyright issues i am unaware of or something?( im not to type of person to read through all of those things, even though i did read the software forum rules, and as far as i could see, i wasnt breaking any rules...)

If you break the encryption on a DVD, you are violating the copyright laws and terms of use for the DVD. (All that fine print with the FBI logo on it...) Basically it is saying that you can't remove the encryption that was put on the DVD without severe penalties, etc., etc...

If you have any further questions, please let me know.

sorry i was up till 2, had to get some sleep
