Spelt is a correct way (albeit old-fashioned) to say spelled. And it is spelled antivirus, not anti-virus.

Avast is the best that I have used, out of AVG, Norton, Avast, and one other that I can't remember right now what the name was.
 
Everyone always debates this question but unless you test out every single program for which program stops the most malware, there is no "best" program. They all use different algorithms to find malware so the results will always vary. PC World did some testing on the best free and commercial anti-virus programs back in January. Personally I use McAfee since I get it free through my school.
 
This question is more-less a matter of preference, to an extent.

If you are willing to pay for it, go with a professional version of AVG or something. Norton, in my opinion, is too resource hogging for my liking.

If you want a free solution, go with AVG Free, Avast, that free-av.com one, or something like that. The best thing to do would be to go around on the internet and look for reviews... but that PC World article should help you. ;)
 
Please people.

Do not believe anything from a review.The last one i read through was supposed to be a review on the latest AV suites.By the time i got to the bottom of the page, the site had already recommended Zonealarm Suite '5 Times'.Go here to this independent testing site.Considered completely 'unbiased' even by the antivirus companies.
