any good ISPs for Michigan?

ya, i have verizon at like 1mbps, which is like 56k transfer rate, and i need a good isp, looking for a leas 500kbps transfer rate, which is like 4mbps, and also, i am like 500 feet from the road, and i prob need a line up...dangit, in which case i'll prob have to shell out $10,000 like charter wanted me to.

thanks!

just to say you need 500KB (kilobytes) which is equal to 4Mbs (megabits)

The B is lower case in refernce to bits.

You are not getting the full speed of your intenet connection if it is only downloading at 56KBs on a 1Mbs connection my connection is only 460Kbs and I get the same download speed.

Is there any chance there is a problem with your line/isp/computer?

i dont think so, the way i remember it, when you test your speed, which mine is 1Mb, you're supposed to divide it by 8, then you get the transfer rate. but mw2, tf2, quake live, and all the other games i play need more of a boost, cuz every game i join is usually 200ms ping or more. the highest i ever got it in the beginning was 180KB/s...hey what's your ISP?

If your option is charter then likely they have it locked as provider. ATT Uverse if available and great if fiber optics. What about Comcast? Then you would have to pay for a higher speed. It won't cost that much to run. You can do your self also. They will hook ya up.
I do not like Charter. Too slow. Maybe WOW cable. like mentioned they may have it locked in your city for so many years. When Comcast did come in the city required they provide for everybody in the city. You can bargain then go and complain to the city for support. Don't do over the phone. Goto the city hall and let them know how on happy you are. You have to deal with your options and find out what they are.

On another note i did for a friend in Mich on the Ohio border. He called and asked about requirements to do himself. He bought the cable and we used a spade for gardening (heavy duty) and took about 2 hrs. He was several hundred feet from the road. they hooked it up and he ordered the mid range higher speed. Your just separating the ground then stepping on it to close it back up.
Spade was about 4" deep i think.

good luck.

your talking about ping which is the time in takes in miliseconds to get to the server and then back to you, this can be affected by many things usually it is because you or someone else is using the connection which can obviously slow your rate and affect yourgameplay,I'm not sure what you need for mw2 and such it just says broadband connection was it ok before? or is it just recently that its not working ok? 1Mb sounds like enough but i, unfortunatly, havent had chance to play it yet.

I'm from the uk and i'm with a company called plusnet.

btw you are correct dividing by 8 gives you a good estimate of you d/l speed your download rate should be around 125KBs.

I'm gonna continue play the first modern warfare, on the guilli suit level :)

alright, charter wants to charge $10,000 cuz we need new poles, which we dont need to use, we can dig, then they want $6 a foot for cable at 500 ft, idk how much it will cost at home depot or where ever you get it, but comcast is not available in my area, checked myself, and verizon is the only other option, which i could get 7.1 Mb/s but my parents wont let me... i said i would pay the extra FIVE DOLLARS, but they said no. they just want to get me pissed off. well it's working:angry::angry::angry::angry::angry::angry:
