Any idea why i cant boot up?

Just installed this:

Asus Crosshair 3
2x 2GB DDR3 ram
AMD Phenom II

I've installed it all, plugged everything in, and no boot! I have motherboard lights on, just wont start up.

I know it could be a million reasons but if anyone can give me any suggestions i'd appreciate it! Running it all on a Corsair 520w PSU by the way.

These all new components?
All the motherboard stand offs connected/in the right place?
Check the connection from the power button to the motherboard?
Is there any thermal paste between the CPU and heatsink? (Preapplied or costom (meaning you applied it yourself)?)
Make sure the heatsink is properly placed/snapped in.

Here's a common problem:
The 4-pin CPU connector is tricky the way it goes in, make sure all the plugs fit exactly to what's on the motherboard. It's like a puzzle, the pieces have to fit exactly in order for it to work.

They're all new components yeah, all the things you suggested are in place. I just did a trial and error on as many of the components i could, and it turns out no power was getting to the motherboard because of a dodgy ATX12v extension, i've got rid of it, and its powering up fine...however....

Now when i boot up i get a message saying that the hard drive's status is BAD, Back up and replace! When i hit F1 to resume, i get another message telling me to use a proper boot device, presumably its time for a new hard drive?

Thanks so far!

Check the BIOS for your boot settings and be sure the hard drive is set to boot at all. It could be disabled.

Are you trying to boot this new board with a old windows install?

Stranglehold is right, your hard drive controller chipset on the new motherboard is totally confused.
You can either opt for a repair of your existing OS or go with the W7 install.

Great, thanks a lot guys. Went off to the shop, got myself a new hard drive (was overdue anyway) and problem solved, all running perfectly now!

Thanks!
