Any MOBO have Raid 1 capability on em???

The book I am reading suggested for a mainstream PC to have RAID I - as a redundant disk backup to protect against failure. The book mentioned his MOBO was RAID I ready.

I did some looking on Newegg last night clicking on SPECS of MOBO's and didn't see any boards with RAID 1.

Is it a feature that's on all MOBO's these days - none of em - or just a few select that I was unable to find? LIke I said - I looked at a good number of MOBO's last night and didn't see RAID on any of the specs.

Thanks

Most mainstream mobos do support RAID 1. For Intel motherboards, look at the specs of the southbridge. If it has an "R" at the end, it supports RAID.

That's what I was looking for - thanks

Do alot of people here use RAID - or is it more of a rarity.

Admittedly - I've been light on backing up my PC's HDD - but knock on wood it's never came back to bite me. I am looking for a way to easily backup my drive for future build. RAID looks like one option

I know many people use RAID 0 in their setup's for faster load times.
But I also know a few people that use RAID 0+1, and RAID 5.

Glad you got some suggestions. I use a raid 1 but it is separate from the computers. It is in the form of a NAS and shared across the ethernet. Personally, I think it's nuts not to have one for anybody that has valuable data. There are USB connected models as well. My only point in posting this is that you can have a raid and still choose a mainboard without a raid controller.

I'm not familiar with the acronym or term " NAS " Network ___ Server??

I'd be interested in that concept - if I could turn an older PC into the data server on the cheap. If I had to get a whole new hardware setup - in the name of saving money - I'd look for cheaper alternatives.
