all teh media centers that i know, the platform of themis an OS.
What you can do is put the media center program on startup in full screen each time
the computer boot up.In that way you dont need to deal with the desktop
environment.
And if you dont wahnt to use media center from windows,u do
have Media Portal that is Open source project and u have a lot
of plugins for it. and much more stuff than media center it self.
Not to mention that for media center to run(the one that belongs to microsoft)
only runs with a few tv-tunner chipsets and the media portal,
its diferrent, because you can plug in almost any tv-tunner to it and it will plays.

Just so you know Darkgamer333, all computer systems have some sort of operating system running behind whatever application you are using. As Canivari stated, you can run Windows Media Center in full-screen restricted mode on startup. This essentially can turn your computer into a media appliance. Other packages such as Media Portal or the Linux based MythTV are out there to do what you want.

I could make you the simple Media Center program and make it to start on the Windows startup. So from it you will be able to listen ALL your musics, watch movies, pictures,go on the internet and more!It can also have ALL the shutdown options so you dont need to even use Windows shutdown options to shut down your computer.I can put many nice stuff in.However this would take me some time to make it so I am not going to do that unless you pay me.:D

Anyway there is a Windows XP Media Center Edition which has pretty nice Media Center which you can put to start when Windows starts in the full screen and you can use that. Its pretty nice I must say.I would make some things different, but I can't complain.:DTry that and see if it fits your needs.

S.T.A.R.S., you can already do that with Windows Media Center (have it boot on start up, handle shutdown options, etc...). Also, any version of Vista/Win7 Home Premium or higher has Windows Media Center built in.
