Here's what I don't understand..cheap computers that are fast enough and have pci and pci express slots and a 220 watt power supply...
How in the heck do you upgrade one without changing out the whole power supply?

I can't believe there is any card that won't draw to much power for such a weenie power supply..

I only say this as a poor retied senior looking for a cheap way to go

That is why its always better to build your own, so you get the best quality parts from the start. There are very few cards that will "run" on an OEM 220w PSU. I would never trust it with any card, though.

You only use graphics cards which don't use power from the PSU directly through a 6-pin or 8-pin PCI express power connector but draw power from the motherboard. These cards tend to be very low-end and cheap. I ran a GeForce 6200 and then later an 8400 GS on my HP dx2200 for almost two years on its standard 300W PSU for nearly two years with no problems, and I've put a Radeon X1300 in my brother's HP dx2250 which is also running fine on its standard PSU. These cards don't consume much power but they're not good for gaming. If you want gaming hardware then you're going to have to upgrade the PSU.
