I find that some web pictures cannot be saved directly with right-click and "Save Image As".
A lot of common screen capture software will help but they require hand selection of rectangular area which is very trouble and it's hard to have perfect selection.

Any very smart screen capture software that could detects any rectangular shape (XY problem) and automatically suggest a perfect selection.

I know it is a pain, but can you not just inspect the web page's HTML markup and get the URI for the raw image file?

Chrome (right click + inspect element), Firefox and IE have similar ways IIRC...

If you're trying to get pictures from photography sites such as 500px, that's because the copyright doesn't allow you to save the file since the artist wants to sell copies.
