Any way or Any Software to Make My Computer Load Up Faster?

For the purpose of this thread, just to avoid any misunderstanding, let's assume by load up time I mean the time between restarting/booting up your computer, having all your programs load up so you can actually start to run an application like Word or Internet Explorer. I have XP SP 2 & have Norton's AntiVirus. Ialready regularly MSCONFIG to get rid of any programs in the start up, run several anti adware programs, defrag every few weeks, etc. & it still takes around 6-7 minutes to make computer is ready to use. Oh, yeah, its 1 Gig Memory, 105 Gigs HD (with about 90 gigs free) & I think Pentium 4. I do have alot of shortcuts for my Programs on my Desktop. Is that what's causing things to not load up faster? My hard drive is fine & I've rarely had any freezes.

Is this time normal or are there any programs or tweaks you'd recommend to make my load up time faster? Thanks for any advice.

This will compact and defrag your registry, but first.

Download CCleaner and go to 'issues' it will scan you computer for erroneous registry entries and delete them.

Instead of norton, use AVAST, it is free and has regular updates and provides excellent protection.

The step by step installation instructions are there, make sure to register, it is legit, no spam. You get a free 1 year subscription with registration. Norton is a resource hog, not always bad but in this particular instance it is.

Also do a full system scan with this.

This site also has tweaks and performance enhancing guides, it is very useful but be careful.
