any way to get a dell or hp monitor to work with apple os-x system?

my mac has the vgi output, 15 pin connector, but when i plug in monitor, its all lines,,,,,

any ideas, thoughts, suggestions? thanks....

There's no reason almost any monitor shouldn't work on your Apple. What model are we referring to here? There's really no standard with apples no-of-days (as in nothing different from PCs). Are you sure you have the output set to an acceptable setting? Not a resolution or Hz over what the monitor can manage?

i plugged monitor into my vista pc...worked fine.

i plugged into apple, get all lines horizontally across the screen...
it even makes the mac monitor on the notebook do the same thing when i plug it in...

Sounds like the Mac is running at too high of a resolution for the monitor to handle or too high of a refresh rate. Try knocking the refresh rate down a bit.
