any way to speed up data transfer

I got 2 tb of data I need to put on my computer from eternal harddrive. But it might take like 7 hours.
Anyway I can speed up the transfer? I have usb2

If you open the external is it a regular hard drive with sata data and power connectors? If so, then you can remove it from the external case and connect directly to your system and transfer data that way.

An alternative would be an eSATA port. That's an external port that connects directly to the SATA bus. Perhaps your computer has one, if so it's as fast as installing the drive.
