anybody have experience using snort

My company has been looking into an IDS system for awhile now and from the looks of it snort is one of the best out there. I was wondering if anybody has ever had experience with it and what they think of it?

If your company is truly looking into such things, then they should not mind sending you out for some security training. There are a plethora of tools out there, but every infrastructure is different, and there is really no way to tell you how effective a single tool is. The tool itself is not the biggest factor as more of the user is the main factor.
