alright guys,
few weeks ago i downloaded joomla and installed it, latter decided to build up a site and so i did, which is quite almost finished... now i want to host it to a web host... will chose a host latter..currently using a free host for getting a feal of hosting and complications...

my question is how to host a joomla based website ??
which folder i have to create for the joomla installation on my host....

OP

keep in mind Joomla needs phpmyadmin/mysql in order to run successfully.
You just can't upload what you did locally on your pc online, it won't work. (Joomla is not a website, it's a cms)
If you wanna do it that way, backup your db from phpmyadmin and upload it to your host cpanel.

cheers

well i know that, what i did before was i created a database on the control pannel of my site host and a user to edit that database and used that database and user for joomla istallation on the web server... phpmyadmin is running on the server and also i can ceate 5 mysql database..

so where i go from here now??

Create mysql database and user.
Import existing data into mysql database.
Edit the config file with new database, user, password.
Upload to root folder on web host.
Open your domain.

Hmm, I think you might have a problem thought. Because installing it on your computer
will be different then an installation on the host. The settings - domain and folder
locations - will have changed. So you will either have to edit those manually in the
mysql database by using phpmyadmin. Or, you can run a fresh install of joomla and
somehow import your website files into joomla - if such an option exists.

But, I also think your server has safemode on, and joomla requires the setting
safemode to be off, and so most likely you won't be able to run a joomla cms on
your host anyway.

i tried to install the joola and following screen appear... how shud i correct these errors

well i was able to setup joomla ... solved the most of the problems by editing global.php file.. the joomla setup provided by the host is version 1.0.0 i geuss, so will be updating it from some migration tools, now that i ve setup the joomla on the server, i dont know how to upload the files to the folder... whenever i use any ftp client some files dose not get uploaded...help with this and what is the name of the root folder for any site??

Hey wardhanster,

I highly recommend JoomlaPack: http://joomlapack.net/ for backing up and migrating Joomla sites. It automates the whole process for you. It's saved me hours of manual work.

Also for hosting of Joomla sites, Bluehost.com is fantastic. I have used them for multiple sites. Their interface is extremely simple to use, feature rich, and well laid out. When you do have a question they almost always answer within seconds of calling and every support person seems to know the answer to every question I have had. Here is a link to see what they offer: http://www.BlueHost.Com/tellmemore
