Hi!
I have XP pro on my HP latop. I was so lucky and i managed to get a virus through msn messenger, mainly due i had my Kaspersky security lowered due to get more performance to render 3d animation. So then I deleted all the spyware that there was to delete, using spysweeper, spybot and lavasoft adware. But my quicktime didnt work still after i got the virus, i did couple re installs but nothing. So I knew there had to be more spyware, altough i ran all the scans in safe mode which showed nothing. So then I ran another scan using spy audit, it found 3 adwares and 1monitor.
So then i downloaded another spyware removal tool, cant remember the name, anyway then after the install it started doing scan but i wanted it to do the scan in safe mode so i did restart. Unfortunately I missed the place where you can choose to start in safe mode, 3 times, due people next me disturbing, and 4th time the windows didnt start up at all, not in any mode. It only blinked the blue screen error and shut down. I managed to take a picture of the blue screen error and write down the error and error code which was *** STOP: 0x0000007B. I found one of the reasons for that to be bootsector virus. The thing was that i dont have XP pro cd with me, atm abroad, I could only get Win XP home and win XP recovery cd. I tried recovery cd, but it didnt do anything, not even using boot from cd-rom, then i went with the win XP home sp1 cd, as usually it takes to blue screen setup. If I knew how, I would use the RECOVERY CONSOLE, but unfortunately i know fairly little about command probmts, I did one fixboot try, but it didnt help, still windows shutting down.
Pointlessly I started installing XP home then, but it couldnt finish the setup due the Product Key invalid, altough the key is right, its probably some kind of conflict due i choosed to install it over the same partition i had xp pro and not to format but leave it same, choosed it to be installed another folder. I didnt want to loose my files.
So I have atm:
19078mb of harddisk
unpartitioned space 16mb
C: Partition1 [NTFS] 19054mb 2571mb free
unpartitioned space 8mb
Partition1 has win XP pro in C:/Windows
and Win home(not finished install, setub files probably) in C:/Windows2
I know i could install xp home over the partition1 by formatting, but that would make me loose everything there probably. I dont really want to loose some of my work i've done, i have all my 3d models and animations there
which i dont have backups of. Does anyone know any options which would prevent from loosing things in my documents? Any help is very apreciated.
I will try maybe i can find a win xp pro cd, then i could ran the install over it and do the upgrade in place which should be installing over the windows files but keeping rest?
