Anyone familiar with Intel Celeron D?

I just purchased a desktop off ebay because the title said "Intel P4 Celeron D Prescott". I assumed that this was "Pentium 4", but when I called the peoples and asked them about the desktop that I ordered they advised me that it's not the actual pentium 4, and instead they said that it's the core of pentium 4 then went on praising and saying how this is the 3rd generation chip, and blah, blah, blah..
I never heard of celeron D with a pentium 4 core. I don't even know if this was a good purchase because I don't know what the heck celeron D is.
If someone can explain to me in basic terms where celeron D stand against other chips like pentium 4 and celeron, or help me get a better understanding I would really appreciate it.
I purchased the desktop strictly for audio use.

(Intel P4 Celeron D Prescott, 2.4 ghz, 256 Cache, 533 Fsb, 512 DDR, 80Gb 7200Rpm)

Every Celeron uses a Pentium core, but what makes them cheaper/not perform as well as the Pentium is the smaller cache size and slower FSB (Pentium 4s are 200MHz, Cel D is 133MHz). A Celeron D uses the Prescott core, which is the core that is in the current Pentium 4s. Depending on what you paid and the specs of the rest of the system its probably not a bad purchase, the Celeron D is a good replacement for the old Celerons
 
Are you sure about the FSB for the celeron D, and pentium 4? I thought the Celeron D is 533Mhz, and pentium 4 is 833Mhz. I just got finished looking up the model, and the spec say 533Mhz for intel celeron D 320 which is the exact chip.

The actual FSB is 133 for a Celeron D and 200 for newer P4s. The effective bus speed is 533 and 800 respectively due to the sending of 4 bits per cycle
 
So realistically, is this celeron D PC faster than my current P3, 733Mhz, 128sdram? I am trying to run protools audio software and my current PC is just impossible to run on.
I'm sorry if I may sound stupid, but I am really not too familiar when it come to PC and it's hardwares.
 
Yes, the Celeron D should be quite a bit faster. I have the Celeron D 320 in one of my systems and it runs everything from my audio/video encoding to my thermal modelling software just fine. I don't think you'll be disappointed with it especially when it costs about half of a similarly spec'd P4.
 
Thanks for the quick answers for my questions. I really appreciate it. I guess I will have my finger crossed until it arrives. The headline "p4" had me thinking that this was a pentium 4 desktop. Very misleading for peoples that's not very knowledgeable with PC's.

Very true. If you decide to make a big deal out of it do realize that you have quite a solid position for a false-advertising issue, implied, expressed or otherwise because there isnt such a thing as a "P4 Celeron-D Prescott"
