Hey guys i'm just trying to find out if anyoone has overclocked an i7 980x extreme edition 6-core? I just wanna know the running temp after OCing

also can anyone tell me a good program to see the temp of my cpu while in windows? and prime95 is that to test the cpu temp while on a full load?

thanks guys!

Holy dooly you sure went all out on your machine have you considered running 3D mark 06 and seeing what benchmark you get thats one hell of a rig. Temp program you probally want to look at something like everest which tells you all temps or real temp which just tells you cpu temp.

what no ssd? lol that is a sick rig though, if i had a i7-980x i would oc it and help you out, i just had to tell you that it was a nice rig

It's a really nice PC you have there. Run a 3dmark06 test so we can see your score. :) I do use Everest Ultimate Edition and i can see all the temps that i need. But i'm not 100% if it's accurate or not. I use it for different things though.

yeah i wanted to atleast OC to 4.0 gigherts... but i dunno if the stock fan will cut it...if i do liquid cooling i'd probably go higher than 4.0....but a bit timid this will be the first time i've oced anything lol

also do Licquid cooling system leak often? i've always stayed away from it b/c i'm so afraid that a pipe will blow off or something lol

If you use decent parts, do it properly and test it all first then no, it shouldn't leak or cause any problems.

The stock cooler for the 980x is pretty good (considering it's a tower cooler) and I might try it just for starters and see how it goes. For temps I usually use speedfan:

I hear coretemp is really accurate, though. Anyways, if your temp stays under 75c while running Prime95, I consider it to be okay. Even if it gets into the high 70s, it should still be fine. AFAIK, even if a normal program pushes it to 100% usage (not Prime95) it doesn't get as hot as it does in Prime95.

Btw, I just bought the same hard drive that you have. :) Is it good?
