Anyone Recommend a Great Optical Drive

I have an old CD-ROM Drive (Sony model CDU5221) and was looking to upgrade to a DVD optical drive. Finding that most discs are going to be in Digital Versatile Disc format and my CD-ROM drive won't work with them anymore. My price limit is no more than $50. Can anyone recommend a great optical drive?

Both types easy enough. I have a sata dvd burner as well as an ide cd writer, 2 sata HDs, and one ide HD on the 6 port model board here. They use the exact same ports for the optical drives as well as the same type power and data cables.

Did Sony buy NEC or something?

Anyways, NEC and Lite-On are great brands and are at a good price. IMO, There's no reason to pay more than $40 for an optical drive.

And that cable is SATA II, not SATA.

There are no Sata I and Sata II cables as a rule. There are Sata I+II drives however where you can use the 4pin molex type power plug instead of the newer sata type now standard on Sata II drives. Sata I drives also saw drive jumpers for setting drive modes not cable position.

Some sata data and power cables will have right angle plugs as well as those seen at the links there seeing the straight in type.
