Anyone used one of these new Samgung 850 SSD 250gb drives?

Just got my new drive today after my Kingston hyperx has quit on me. (or until I test it further to see whats wrong with it)

Ive got to say, I'm a little flaky on using this Samsung drive. It has almost no weight to it and looks cheaply built but I've read some reviews on it and is suppose to be top of the line right now.

I just got the drive cloned with my HDD and the new SSD is running in my laptop now. So far everything seems alright.

Any others try out this drive yet?

Yes, I've been using Samsung 840 and 850 EVOs and have had great success and performance with them. While they do feel "cheap", it's simply because flash storage is incredibly light, and when you put that SSD in a laptop you want it to be as light as possible.

The cheap feel is because they weigh almost nothing. They're good drives, you should be fine.

Just bought one a month ago or less. Sort of thought the same thing. They are super light and plastic-y, but really, it's what's inside. SSD's don't use any mechanical or moving parts, so there really is no reason for it to be made of metal, since there's not much it needs to protect.

Just don't run over the thing in a car, and you should be just fine.

Well i had an ssd before which i think fried last week. Its why i bought a new one.

The last one i had was a kingston and seemed to be very well built. As in, it had a little weight, seemed like it was built with quality. I was just comparing the two was all and was just like wow lol

Did anyone have a problem installig it in there pc? I put mine in and it wouldnt run the OS from the cd to install it. Had it formatted and all. Could see the drive in an external enclosure.

Finally had to use there cloning software

Eh, build quality is kind of debatable unless you do a teardown. That's kind of like judging a USB drive by its weight.

That being said they're pretty decent. You might notice a slight difference from the HyperX depending on which specific model it was.

Well the new drive is up and running now. I bought the 256gb version. Its now the drive that runs my OS and programs and im reinstalling my 750gb hdd tonight for all my data. Love having a laptop with two hd bays.

Guess we will see how the samsung does

Yes I've been using the 850 EVO 250GB in my desktop since February or March with no issues and the 850 Pro 256GB in my HTPC since November 2014 with no issues. The 840 EVO 250GB has been going strong in my ThinkPad since July 2014. Samsung SSDs are great, you bought just about the best SATA SSD you can get as far as price-performance goes . :)
