Anything I can do for my Hard Drive?

Hi,

I have a Seagate 320 IDE hard drive that is not playing as it should, if I have the drive plugged into the PC and I try to boot, the machine seems to hang on the screen that shows the ram, components etc.

I thought that it may have been because the NTFS file system was corrupt so I have tried to format the drive using a Ubuntu Live CD however that is not working either, what is also strange is that fact that the drive seems to be clicking when its trying to be accessed.

Is there anything that I can do or does anyone know what this problem could be at all?

Thanks

Scott

I clicking drive usually means its about to die completely. If you were trying to format it I assume you either have backups made or don't need anything off the drive? If that's the case then I would just get a new drive.

I have heard that freezing the drive overnight will get it working again but only temporarily. I've never tested this so I'm not suggesting you try it but it's an option if you absolutely need to get something off of it.
