Tomorrow i plan to buy a apple 14 inch ibook g4 1.42 ghz 512mb and 60gb,at around 1300 euros :)

i could also easily buy a dell, hewlett packard for the same price with specs of 1.7ghz + 1024mband 80 to 100gb for even cheaper

but i keep hearing buying this mac, i will not regret it :D

any ideas on what i should get, or where i should go

Well it all comes down to preference. What are you planning to do on this computer? If you want to cruise the internet and type up papers and basic computing, I'd say go for it, but if you want to game, PC is the way to go. You have to remember that Windows covers over 90% of the world and the last that I checked, Mac was only 2.2% and declining (that's world, not US alone). So you'll be able to find a lot more software and hardware compatible with Windows than you will with Mac. But like I said before, if you want just basic computing, music downloading, and internet browsing, it's fine. I hope this thread don't become a flame war, since it shouldn't be- its just a matter of preference.

that'll be good for just about any 'simple' task you're planning on doing. As for 'hardcore' computer imaging or what-not there are better macs for it...but this'll suffice ;)

If your a multitasker its ok because thats all apple is good at. Though if you plan to do some gameing too then a nice HP is good with the AMD athlon 64 and 1GB of ram.

really depends on what you are doing. i do a lot of programming and when we submit our projects they must compile in linux g++ which is handy for pc users because they can install linux and work on it at home as opposed to sitting at the library. gaming there are many games out for macs now a days but game play tends to be a tad bit better on pc's plus many popular game makers such as valve do not have games out for macs so pcs might be a better choice. if you are a big video guy majoring in some sort of art, then macs tend to be a better choice.
