apple vs vaio

i need suggestions on what laptop to buy.

i am currently using windows xp software with an acer aspire.

i plan to change my laptop to either an apple or a sony vaio. my boyfriend would suggest an apple is better cause the vista is still slow.

i'm a physician so my lap top will be more for clerical work and web browsing.

can anyone give me insight on this?

thanks.

Sony's are overpriced for what they offer. I have both a MacBook and an Acer laptop with Vista. They both have their pros and cons, the real thing comes down to if the software you plan on using are compatible with Mac's.

If Sony's are overpriced, then Macbooks are fraudulent because of their costs.

but Mac's come with numerous multimedia software. if you'll be doing graphics, editing of some sort, consider getting a mac. if it's just your normal surf the web and office apps, don't get the vaio. they're terribly overpriced.

Not exactly, because what does a Sony offer that an Acer doesn't? The point is Sony has the same OS as the cheap Acer or Dell's have, whereas Apple has a completely different OS.

^^ Are you trying to start something again? I dont think we should be comparing a sony vaio to a Mac. They are in completely different categories.

omg. lol. i was just stating that they use similar hardware, so one will not be much faster than other. it depends on what OS you like. stop being so paranoid. relax.

and no they are not in different categories. they are both laptops. lol.

*facepalm*

re-reading the original post, the OP won't be using the multimedia apps on the MAC so Windows based laptop will be fine for your needs.

now, about Vista being slow. you'll occur slowdowns in loading times if the laptop you have has a small amount of ram. we recommend getting a laptop with at least 2 gigs of RAM.

would you like a small & portable laptop? what budget do you have? we can suggest one that'll suit your needs. :)

^^ Right then a Windows based PC is the way to go. And yes, for Vista you would want atleast 2gb of ram which, is the standard for Vista anyways.

i think that he wants a top notch, amazing laptop with an X9000 or similar. that would suit him best. i know adobe premier, it takes a long time to render video, even with my Q6600.

you don't need a Alienware or Dell XPS for those tasks.

Toshiba Satellites are awesome for common tasks. I have one and I recommend it.

lol. i confused this thread with another one! LOL.

yea, any laptop should be fine. even a P4. i think any Pentium Dual-Core T2xxx laptop should be fine in that case.

If you want to go with Windows, then theres really no reason to get a high priced Sony, just go with a cheaper Dell, HP, Acer, etc. Yes Apple does use Intel CPU's now, but I tell you, it's great to be able to turn on an Apple for the first time and not have to worry about getting drivers, especially if Windows didn't auto-detect the NIC!

for web browsing and little office work you could go to best buy and get like the cheapest laptop there downgrade to XP and that would support your needs

^^^^ Umm good luck finding XP drivers for a Vista based machine!! Downgrading causes more headaches than sticking with Vista. Plus, whats wrong with Vista?
