Applying New Thermal Paste... Use Alot, Right?

Ignore the title.

I am applying MX2 to my CPU (3800+ Socket AM2) and I followed the directions found at Arcticcooling.com but it only covers most of the CPU, is that ok?

What I mean is that it covers a spot about the size of a quarter on my processor.

The directions say not to spread it on the processor, if that means anything to you.

Looking forward to a reply.

Yeah thats fine, with a dual core you put a line down the middle. With a single core, a dot does the trick :)

I put a dot in the middle of the cpu (per the instructions on arcticcooling.com) and it appears to be working so far..

After posting this, I tightened the cpu cooler down and ran the computer for a few minutes, shut it down, removed the cooler and turned it around (180 degrees) so now the paste is evenly spread on the cpu.

My temps are roughly 28c idle . 34-36c load.

Not sure if MX2 has a set-in-period, if it does, I might be looking at even lower temps :D

i thought you spreaded it with a razer blade
you can, but why would you want to waste your time spreading it when the heatsink will do it anyway? :P

great :)

some people like using a razor blade or the intel genuine sticker to evenly spread the goop but i'd follow arctic cooling's instructions as their method prevents contamination.

stock cooling:
idle temps 30c
load 41c

haven't tried the spreading method but these temps are just fine
