Are all cd drives compatable with Linux?

I was reading up on a dvd-r drive and it said it was compatable with Windows XP and 2000. Does this mean it is only compatable with them, or can it probably run on linux.

Shouldn't have any issues with a CD or DVD drive be it reader or writer.
